Diet and the Teeth: An Experimental Study. Part I. Dental Structure in Dogs
London: His Majesty's Stationery Office, 1929. 308 pages plus 109 black-and-white plates from photographs (most plates with multiple images). Privy Council, Medical Research Council, Special Report Series, No. 140. The first (of three) studies on diet and teeth published by Mellanby, a pioneering woman scientist who methodically studied how nutrition affected teeth. This is the result of her initial research, where dogs were fed specially controlled diets to determine how diet affected the development of teeth and how it affected cavities. A significant study in dentistry and medicine and an exceptional example of women in science in the early 20th century. Rather uncommon. ISBN: B007FBIGVC.
First edition (first printing). Near fine but for two neat previous owner's names on the first blank, in the original cloth-over-boards binding, with large paper labels on the front and back covers. Front cover label chipping, but not affecting any printing.
