Social Background of the American Indian
(N.-pl.): Hospital Social Service, 1931. Pp. 108-112. Offprint. A talk given by Spinden, the Curator of Ethnology at the Brooklyn Museum, at the June 1930 National Conference of Social Work. He roundly criticizes federal Indian policy, particularly the Indian school system, and proposes an educational approach based on the pre-Columbian achievements of Native Americans. Despite good intentions, he seems more impressed with aboriginal native peoples than modern Indians, referring to the graduates of Indian schools as "human trash.". ISBN: 281AIB1019247.
Near fine.
