Ancient Forests in the Pacific Northwest: Analysis and Maps of Twelve National Forests
First Edition
Washington D. C: 1991. 13 pages. 11-1/4 by 14 inches. Report and maps from The Wilderness Society's study of National Forests to determine the amount of remaining old growth in Washington, Oregon and California following more than a century of logging and forest fragmentation. The report came at a time of increased concern over logging, and controversy around the recent listing of Northern Spotted Owls as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, setting up the timber industry's "owls vs. jobs" debate. The Society report was released in conjunction with a similar study by the Forest Service, but the two differed in their findings – The Wilderness Society found half-a-million acres less than the Forest Service. ISBN: 281AIB1037271.
Very good in wrappers (paperback) with metal comb binding. Rear pocket complete with ten enclosed National Forest maps: 1) Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie, 2) Olympic, 3) Gifford Pinchot, 4) Mt. Hood, 5) Willamette, 6) Siuslaw, 7) Umpqua, 8) Rogue River, 9) Siskiyou, and 10) the Klamath, Six Rivers and Shasta-Trinity. Maps fine, or nearly so.
