There are two states of this book, one with 30 lines on page 9 and one with 31 lines (the remaining pages have 31 lines). The change has to do with the enjambment (look it up!) of two lines which makes it hard to determine which is the first or the preferred version, since the effect is simply different and not obviously right or wrong.

In the publisher's Bulletin newsletter for March 1976, Squires suggests that he made the change and not Bradbury. Squires writes, "Throughout any press-run the printer may be tempted to introduce typographic changes; few printers can be trusted invariably to resist those temptations."

It appears that the 31-line version was used for about 250 copies, including the 150 signed subscriber's copies.

It is impossible to say if Squires set page 9 with 31 lines initially and then changed his mind about the spacing and re-did it with 30 lines or if he discovered that he had set page 9 with only 30 lines and decided to change the spacing to make the page match the others.

In any case, the unsigned 30- and 31-line copies seem to have roughly equal print runs. ISBN: 281AIB1043205.

The Central Pacific R. R. Debt: California's Remonstrance Against Refunding It

    First Edition

(San Francisco): (n.p.), 1896. 29 pages. The City of San Francisco appointed a committee to fight the Central Pacific Railroad's proposal to refinance its debt to the US government. The pamphlet accuses the railroad and it's owners--Leland Stanford, Collis Huntington, Charles Crocker, and Mark Hopkins--of fraud. San Francisco Mayor Adolph Sutro appointed a "Committee of Fifty" to oppose the Central Pacific and Southern Pacific railroads. The conclusion of the pamphlet reprints two essays by John T. Doyle, which had appeared in The Nation. Many similar pamphlets were issued in the mid-1890s. Cowan and Cowan, Bibliography of the History of California, p. 509. ISBN: 281AIB0030549.

    Korean Lullaby

    First Edition

New York: (American Peace Crusade), (n.d. but 1952?). While not dated, an Australian edition was advertised in the Australian Age on August 23, 1952 (p. 16). The US edition almost certainly came first. A widely syndicated press photograph captioned Korean Lullaby, from April 1951, showed two servicemen sleeping in the shadow of an active artillery piece. Perhaps this is the origin of the title. "One of the most ambitious attempts to address the Korean War in verse"--W. D. Ehrhart, The Madness of It All, p. 182. An uncommon Fast piece. Wood, Ray; illustrated by Ed Hargis; foreword by J. Frank Dobie
    The American Mother Goose

    First Edition

(Beaumont, TX): (Greystone Press), (1938). [32] pages. 5 by 7 inches. A collection of folk nonsense rhymes, which Wood called "Peckerwood" verse. Each rhyme is illustrated by two drawings. Unexpectedly--based on the subject matter and the sources--only a couple of the rhymes are racist. To his discredit Dobie, in his short introduction, manages to make reference to "darkies" and he quotes only one rhyme, which also happened to be the only one that uses the N-word.

An expanded edition of this book was published in hardcover by Lippincott in 1940. This first edition is uncommon, with just two holdings in OCLC. ISBN: 281AIB1041587.
