A catalog from the exhibition "Unknown Smelov", presented by Russia's Museum of Nonconformist Art at the Pushkinskaya-10 Art Center from May 20 to June 18, 2006. The exhibition featured 70 photographs from a single collection of the works of the Leningrad photographer, Boris Smelov. Smelov (1951-1998) was persecuted by Soviet authorities and forced to exhibit work primarily in illegal underground exhibitions or abroad. This exhibit was a part of the rediscovery of Smelov. Three years later the Hermitage mounted a retrospective of his work, with another major show in 2018. Very scarce. Not found in OCLC, COPAC, or the Russian National Library. ISBN: 281AIB1043693.

He worked with Margaret Bourke-White photographing the famine in India in 1945 and the turmoil before and after Gandhi's assassination in 1948. He was expelled from the Communist Party of India in 1947. He lived in Berkeley in his later years and died there. ISBN: 9780195661279.

Included with the book is a one-page typed letter, 10/1/05, signed by Peter Howard, Serendipity Books, Berkeley, offering to act as agent to market to an institution Sunil's entire photograph archive and the terms of such a transaction. With a copy of a typed page referencing copyright issues from Cobalt LLP, a Berkeley law firm. Janah had had serious problems through his career with unauthorized reproduction of his photographs.
