    Kyoto, Japan: Kyoto Manshudo, (ca. 1900). Two handpainted designs for large, two-person Buddhist ceremonial instruments, a drum and an cymbal. Both are shown suspended from wooden handles, intended to be carried on the shoulders of two men. Both illustrations are stamped by the manufacturer Kyoto Manshudo (or Mansodo), about which we have not been able to learn anything. 18 by 12 inches each. ISBN: 281AIB0026908.

The etching is after a 1897 painting by Boldini (1842-1931), with his signature in the etching. Jacques Reich (1852-1923) was a Hungarian-born portrait etcher who came to the US in 1873. The image is of Whistler seated in an elegant chair in formal dress holding a monocle up to his eye as if to examine the viewer. ISBN: 281AIB1050371.

    Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott, 1853. George Gibbs traveled to northwestern California in 1851 on an expedition to negotiate treaties with Indian tribes along the rapidly developing Pacific Coast. He arrived in Humboldt County on September 9 and stayed several weeks. He sketched two canoes on Humboldt Bay, with the settlement called Humboldt (just north of present-day King Salmon) visible in the background. This scene was sketched by Gibbs, then redrawn by the artist Seth Eastman for inclusion in Henry Rowe Schoolcraft's Historical and Statistical Information Regarding the History, Conditions, and Prospects of the Indian Tribes of the United States [Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: J. Otero was appointed as 16th governor of the Territory by McKinley and served from 1897 to 1906 when Theodore Roosevelt replaced him. ISBN: 281AIB1050001.

    This original engraving is from the octavo edition of Redoute's classic work, Les roses. Les roses, based on the flowers in Malmaison, the estate of Josephine Bonaparte, Napoleon's first wife, first appeared in a large folio edition, mostly purchased by royalty and the superrich. The smaller octavo edition, from which this print comes, was published between 1818 and 1822. ISBN: 281AIB1040912.
