    Entropy's Bed at Midnight [1 of 300]

    First Edition

Northridge, CA: Lord John Press, 1990. 35 pages. A short story that explores the many ways people die. "Death is a Pepsi truck with no place to go." Issued in an edition of 300 numbered and 100 deluxe copies, all signed by the author. ISBN: 281AIB1039970.

First edition (first printing). A fine hardcover copy; no dust jacket, as issued. This copy is from the issue of 300, but it is not numbered or signed. Instead of a number it is marked "Karen Simmons' copy," designating it for the author's wife. Below that is written in ink, "Binder's Copy." This copy also has a variant binding, with no gold stamping on the spine. Instead, the author and title are printed on cloth labels guled to the spine. The colophon of this copy also differs from that of the regular copies: it lacks the binder's name. Perhaps unique; certainly it is one of a small number of variant copies.

Le nom perdu du soleil (Sous le vent du monde)

    First Edition

(Paris): Denoel, 1998. 366 pages. The second installment in Pelot's five-volume saga Wind of the World saga, a fantasy retelling of human hitory (a French take on the themes explored in Jean Auel's Earth's Children series). This novel is set a million years ago in what is now Burma. Pelot received scientific guidance from Yves Coppens, the anthropologist who headed the expedition that found the famous Lucy Australopithecus skeleton. Pelot (the pseudonym of Pierre Grosdemange) is one of the leading French science fiction writers. ISBN: 9782207245002.

First edition (first printing). A fine copy in wrappers (paperback). Inscribed by Pelot to the paleontologist Stephen Jay Gould. Books inscribed by Pelot are uncommon in North America. While Gould's specialty was land snail fossils, he often wrote about developments in the search for early humanoid fossils, though what he thought of this sort of science-fiction is hard to say.
